here.
July 12, 2008 Once again carving
commitments kept me from competing in the Cooks Forest Carving Show (sorry
Brian!). I don't think I would have stood a chance of winning
though.....because once again Don O'Day stole the show!! It's obvious why,
isn't it?!!! Both the bird carvings are his and pictures do not do them
justice, they look even more real in person! Great job Don,
Congratulations once again on a job well done!!!
Here's my friend Dale Doctor holding his biggest
winner! The skeleton in the second picture is his also. Sorry Dale,
I missed getting one of the rat you carved, it was equally as great!!!
Congratulations again to both you guys!!!
Okay, I know these
pictures don't have anything to do with carving but I wanted to share them with
you anyhow! Ben and I recently spent eight days in Arizona, touring the
Grand Canyon and surrounding area.
I joke that I got to see
the Canyon from every view, in, around, under and over. My favorite, by
far, was from a helicopter. The view seen from above was the most awesome of
all!
I've only flown a couple
of times and this was my first helicopter ride. I wondered if I'd be
afraid.....guess the photo shows I'm not and how much I loved it!!
Hmmmmm, I think this update
could be considered to do with carving after all....the view we had from that
helicopter was carved by the ultimate artist. How great we got to see it
from his point of view!!
July 7, 2007 - This weekend
was the Cooks Forest Carving Show. Although carving commitments prevented
me from entering this year, I wanted to share the Best of Show winner with you.
It is an awesome carving (as you can see) done by Don O'Day. I didn't have
the opportunity to meet Don, but in response to my request to post my picture of
his heron here, received a very nice note from Don and his wife Sherry.
They included the second picture that shows the beauty of this carving even
better! Congratulations Don, your heron was definitely the BEST of SHOW!!
I also wanted to share this
picture of my friend, Dale Doctor and his son Calvin. Dale is a very
successful carver also featured at
FolkWorks Gallery.
He entered five carvings in this years show and won five ribbons!! I, for
one, wasn't a bit surprised!! Congratulations Dale, great work!!
Neither Dale nor Don have
websites, but if they do in the future, I'll post the links here for you to
check out their work. It will definitely be worth your time!

May 2006 - Here I am, holding my sleeping fairy carving
and the Summer issue of
Wood
Carving Illustrated Magazine. There is an eight page article in this
issue, showing, step by step how to do my carving. Many thanks to Bob
Duncan, Shannon Flowers and the entire staff at Wood Carving Illustrated for
giving me such a great opportunity to share my work with my fellow carvers!

July 10, 2005 - I entered five carvings in the Cooks
Forest Carving Show, all five pieces won ribbons (YEAH!!), these two were the
big winners! The Fairy on the teapot won First Place and Best of Division
in the Realistic Carving in the Round Category, plus the Most Innovative Piece
Award!
The theme
of the show was "Where Nature Meets the Arts", I carved the man carving the bear
especially for the show. He won First Place, Best of Division and Best of
Theme in the Theme Carving Category! He also just happens to be my 100th
carving!!

Ribbons in the Realistic Carving in the Round Category. To see a close up
picture of each of them, please go to the Halloween

Here I am, the very happy winner trying to juggle
all my carvings and ribbons, thank goodness Ben was there to help!! Hmmmm,
do I look just a little bit happy to you?!! What a great weekend it was,
lots of great carvers to talk to and fantastic carvings to see! Not to
mention getting to see Wayne from
MDI Woodcarvers Supply again and having the
opportunity to spend too much.....once again!! All in all it was one
terrific weekend (and worth staying up till 3:30 in the morning to finish my
Theme piece the night before it had to be entered!)

May 6, 2005 - 1st Grade Carvers!
I was invited to demonstrate carving for the first graders at Clarion-Limestone
Elementary School, after my demonstration the teachers took the children outside
to try carving for themselves (with soap and popsicle sticks). They did a
great job! I hope they enjoyed my visit as much as I enjoyed being with
them!
Colin and me
Recently
my husband Ben and I had the great pleasure of meeting, in person, a fellow
carver and good friend from Canada, Colin Partridge. It was so terrific
finally getting to meet him, we had a great time and look forward to his next
visit!
Colin mainly
carves Wood Spirits but has lately been exploring the wonderful world of Santa
Carving. To view his work, please visit his website at
